Mangia

It's hard to not have a crush on Mangia. The place was not mind blowing. In fact, it was just modest. A small two storey house turned into a petite cafe at the streets of Panglima Polim.

The first floor has limited tables, most of the room was occupied with the drink bar (no, they don't serve alcohol). Mirrors all over one of the side walls to create an illusion of spacious space with blackboard full of colorful chalks writings hanging at the back walls.

The place was empty. They just opened and we were the first customer of the day. Yay! I love it when I could take pictures of the whole place without having the reluctant of interrupting other guests.
At Mangia, expect full of antique things, from the decoration, the vintage colorful chairs, the granny place mats, the 70s flooring tiles. They have a small balcony with several tables outside. Uh I just loved that old white windows.

We started with their Perkedel Mayo (sweet corn fritters with homemade mayo) 23k. Nicely fried, the kinds of snacks best eaten warm, the dipping mayo was homemade, has a nice flavor compare to other regular supermarket mayo.

Detox special (27k) - Mixed of fresh apple, celery, cucumber and lime creates quite sourly refreshing detox drink. Moving on, hubs had Mangia's big breakfast (60k). Eggs, baked tomato, baked beans, green salad, sausage with garlic baguette bread. The sunny side was perfectly cooked with the runny egg yolk. I went with one of their popular choices, Nasi Tuk Tuk (39k). The dish was quite simple, a bowl of mixed rice with spicy chicken and fried eggs, however I find it pretty satisfying. It wasn't super, but I enjoyed the savory rice and the spicy chicken. It was enough flavor and I liked how they put crispy rice cereals as part of the toppings for some crunchy bites. I guess Mangia fits into a category of diners with affordable prices and cute antique concept design. Not someplace you would take a lady to impress on first date, but definitely fits to be a place for dine in with couple of friends without worrying about ripping your wallet off. It's not a place worth the distance, but if I do live nearby, I wouldn't mind for more visits in the future. Mangia  Jl.
