Po Lim Cha Chaan Teng

It's funny how I am so in love with Hong Kong. The people are rude, and it's not really the prettiest city on earth, but there's just something about Hong Kong that captured my heart since I was a kid until now, and pretty sure, forever. I wouldn't say it's my favorite city in the world, but it's definitely one within Asia. So when I found out about Po Lim Cha Chaan Teng, I was so excited. The images of sweet crispy bun and thin crisp noodle popped up just like that and I hope so much that the place will somehow cure my never ends missing Hong Kong blues.

Po Lim Cha Chaan Teng is the first Hong Kong style tea restaurant in Jakarta. Cha chaan teng means tea restaurant, commonly found in HK. If you've been to the city, you would noticed a lot of cha chaan teng there.

The place is a house turned into a black and red cha chaan teng. The duo combination color probably to put some Chinatown feeling to the restaurant. The inside is pretty standard, aside from the corner with the brand name engraved and the Chinese theme wallpaper, the rest were mostly standard, but all cha chaan tengs in HK are so freakin' ugly anyway, so seeing how it was supposed to be a casual eatery with affordable price range, the design fits well.

Cha chaan teng's menu mostly cover crispy bun, wonton noodle soup, sunny side up, ham and eggs, pineapple bun and the popular Lai Cha (HK's style milk tea). Good to see Po Lim has almost everything covered.

I got myself an Ovomaltine crispy bun (25k). I wanted the original one with only sugar and milk, but when the waiter offered if I would like it with Ovomaltine spread on top, I couldn't resist. Who could say no to Ovomaltine? The bun is definitely higher than my expectation. It was soooo CRISP! I love it! The ovo spread earned credits on giving an extra taste.
The Stir fry Hokkien noodle with shrimp (40k) was only okay but those couple prawns on the top was really good. Nicely cooked, fresh and crunchy.

I do wish I was with more friends that day so we could order more variety of menu, well... other time. If you do stay or work nearby or you just happen to be missing HK's food, this place worth the try.
